SAUBLE TOWNSHIP SPECIAL MEETING - BUDGET WORKSHOP Tuesday, March 18, 2025, 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm The Sauble Township Board of Trustees will continue the process to create and plan for the Sauble Township 2025-26 FY Budget. ~ ~ ~ NOTICE TO SAUBLE TOWNSHIP PROPERTY OWNERS: On January 13, 2025, the Sauble Township Board of Trustees voted in favor (3-2) of repealing the entire zoning ordinance. Sauble Township will continue to abide by Lake County and State of Michigan zoning ordinances. In addition, the Sauble Township Board plans to retain the separate Blight Ordinance and the Master Plan will continue without modification at this time. A Public hearing is required to make any modifications, and you will have the opportunity to voice any concerns to the Township Planning and Zoning Commission. You may also provide a written response to the Township with any concerns. The Planning Commission will continue to support and further the primary goals as outlined in the Master Plan as follows:
A Public Hearing, yet to be determined, will be conducted for citizens to voice their thoughts and concerns. The Sauble-Elk-Eden Fire Department was dispatched to the scene and immediately called for extra mutual aid assistance from: Webber Township Fire Dept in Lake County Branch Fire Department in Mason County Lake County Central Dispatch Lake County Sherriff Office DNR Fire Service USFS Fire Service & FIRE BOSS Air Tankers Mason County Fire Authority Sauble-Elk-Eden Fire Support Group The fire started from someone burning in their burn barrel ashes escaped from the barrel and quickly started debris on the ground on fire. It took many hours to get the fire put out with USDAFS FIRE BOSS air plane tankers assisting by getting water from lakes nearby in Mason County. There were no injuries or structures were lost. However approximately 100 acres of land burned. If you know or see any members of these agencies please, express your gratitude for their willingness to put themselves at risk in trying to save lives, property, and our natural forests. Emma also answered specific questions from the citizens in attendance. We are hoping this is the last year of the Spongy Moth cycle until they appear again in 8-10 years. NEW FLAGPOLE/FLAG INSTALLATION - Sauble Township applied for and received a grant from Great Lakes Energy People's Fund for a new flagpole and flag replacement. The old one was rusting out and in disrepair. At the August 9, 2021 Regular Township Board Meeting, the Boy Scouts of Troop 61 performed a flag raising ceremony outside at the new flagpole at the opening of the meeting. Beth previously served as Deputy Treasurer and will also replace Monica Blankenship as the Ex-Officio/Secretary member of the Planning Commission. Each gardener will be asked to grow an extra plant or two for donations. We will have a tub at the garden for your donations and it will be delivered on a weekly basis to the food pantry.
